85 Years in WA
On April 19, 1941, four alcoholics gathered in Room 522 of the New Washington Hotel which was recognized as the first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in Washington State. This group later came to be known as the Seattle Group or Group #1.
To celebrate our statewide 85th anniversary we are throwing a big party this Spring on April 18th, 2026.
The party program includes Don L. from Bellingham as the main speaker,
an old timers (50+ years) panel, young persons panel, a presentation on
AA history in Washington, a raffle, sobriety countdown and a dance.

Along with registration, we are heading up a few fundraising activities.
The first one is to raise money by suggesting $1.00/year of sobriety. This contribution will place your name, home group, sobriety date, District and Area into a leather-bound registry that will live in Archives (72 and 92 respectively).
If you would like to contribute to this event by adding your information into the Commemorative Book that will become a part of Area 72 and Area 92 Archives respectively you are able to do so here.
Another way we are hoping to raise funds is by the creation of an “Orange Can” that can be taken to events, home groups, District meetings, etc. Monies collected can be taken to your respective Intergroup or Central Office for deposit.
If your group wants to join in the fundraising efforts print this page, stick them on a can and encourage people to collect cash at their home group. You can bring the cash collected to your local Intergroup Office.
Please note, that the monies collected for this event ARE NOT 7th tradition funds. These contributions are voluntary contributions from individuals that wish to support this event.
